Rwanda won the award of the most promising tourist destination during the Outbound Travel Mart held between 21st to 23rd February 2017 in Mumbai, India.
Mrs. Belisa Kariza, who received the award was pleased with the award noting that Rwanda’s participation at the outbound travel mart; India’s leading travel show presented an opportunity to tap into fast growing market of tourist. She also noted that Rwanda denoted itself as premier business and tourism destination in Africa and created awareness of Rwanda’s diverse unique range of both business and leisure traveler.
The award matched with new Kigali-Mumbai long haul flights by Rwanda Air taking advantage of the growing Asian tourist market particularly India which receives up to 15 million visitors. The Mumbai-Kigali flights will also boost trade and tourist arrivals.
Kigali city, with its new Kigali convention center featuring Marriott blue and Radisson five star hotels is now a MICE destination. Rwanda hosted more than 15 global business forums in 2016 including the world economic forum, pan African summit and the recently concluded Africa aviation summit. Likewise Mumbai, the business hub of India would greatly act as a key source market for Rwanda.
During the Outbound Travel Mart, Rwanda among 1000 exhibitors show cased its tourism attractions to more than 15,000 attendees. To potential visitors, Rwanda’s eco tourism adventures including mountain gorilla trekking, volcano hiking, golden monkey and chimpanzee tracking, canopy walks, and wildlife viewing, bird watching and breathtaking scenery.
Rwanda also unveiled its investment opportunities for luxury and leisure tourism on Lake Kivu and the proposed five star golf courses, residential villas, entertainment and leisure complex in the lakeside town of Rubavu, western province.
Rwanda is a strategic conducive environment for tourism investments given its online business services as well as a fact that tourism is the major foreign exchange earner. The Rwandan development board has given priority to strategic tourism infrastructure including the new Bugesera airport, greening Kigali city and its roads connecting to the western province as well as water supply and hydro-power supply.
