A 5 Days Congo safari to Nyiragongo Hiking will start and end in Kigali, hiking Nyiragongo active Volcano in the Democratic Republic of Congo with overnight at the top and then tracking the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National park-Rwanda.
Brief Itinerary
DAY 1: Arrival city tour and Transfer to Gisenyi
On arrival, your tour guide will pick you from the airport and take you for OPTIONAL city tour. Visit the genocide memorial, Nyamata church, local markets among others. You will then drive northwards to Gisenyi on Lake Kivu. You will enjoy a spectacular scenic view of the Virunga Mountain ranges en route. Dinner and overnight stay at Kivu Serena Hotel / Paradise Marahide.
Day 2: Nyiragongo Hike
Early morning, you will cross over to Democratic Republic of Congo via the Goma border at 7 am and drive up to Kibatsi village where you will start the hike. The hike will take you 4-6 hours depending on your speed. Relax at the top of the volcano as you enjoy the scenic view of the lava lake lighting up the sky with the red fires. Dinner and overnight at the Top shelters.
Day 3: Descend the volcano and transfer it to Volcanoes National park.
In the morning, you will start the descending of the volcano reaching down by midday. You will then cross back to Rwanda and drive to Volcanoes National park reaching early in the evening. You may then go for a nature walk to the twin lakes or a cultural walk. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura Hotel/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking and cultural walk.
In the morning at 7 am, you will gather at the park headquarters with your tracking gear and packed lunch for a briefing from the park warden about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. 5 Days Nyiragongo Hiking, After registration, you will be allocated the tracking group and head to the forest at 8:30 are to start the search for the gorillas. Tracking will take 1-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in their natural environment. After one hour with the gorillas, you will descend back and transfer back to your lodge for refreshment. In the evening, you may go for a cultural walk to Iby’wachu. Dinner and overnight stay (day 3).
Day 5: Golden monkey tracking and transfer back to Kigali.
In the morning, you will go for golden monkey tracking. Enjoy them play in the forest in search of food. In return, transfer back to Kigali reaching early in the afternoon. You will then do the last-minute shopping and transfer to the airport to check-in for your departure flight if on schedule.
