6 DAYS CONGO GORILLA TRACKING AND NYIRAGONGO HIKING.
This 6 days Congo tour offers you an opportunity to see two great apes family in
Virunga National Park and hike the active Nyiragongo Volcano. This consists of 4 nights at Kibumba tented camp/ Mikeno Lodge with double gorilla tracking and one day on chimpanzee habituation and one night at the top of the volcano. This tour will start and end in Kigali.
Day 1: Transfer to Virunga NP.
In the morning after breakfast, you will be picked from your hotel in Kigali and set off to Virunga National Park in DR Congo crossing via Grande Barriere border at 11am and check in at Virunga Tourism office at 11:30am. You will enjoy the scenic views of the well-terraced hills and escarpments enroute to Gisenyi, with clear view of the Virunga mountain ranges. You will be presented with the permits at the Virunga park office and then continue to Virunga National Park and check in at Kibumba tented camp located on the edge of the gorilla sector or to Mikeno Lodge near the park headquarters. You will have lunch on arrival at the lodge and have relaxed evening where you may have nature walk around the lodge as you see different bird species. Dinner and overnight at Kibumba tented camp/ Mikeno Lodge.
Day 2: 1st Gorilla tracking adventure.
After an early breakfast, you will set off to Bukima
Ranger Post where you will meet your ranger guides and be briefed about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. You will then enter the forest to start the search for the gorillas, an adventure that will take 1-3 hours depending on the movements of the gorillas in their natural environment. You will spend with the gorillas a maximum of one hour once you encounter the gorillas. After spending the allotted hour with the gorillas, you will return to Bukima Ranger Post and then back Mikeno
Lodge/Kibumba tented Camp for a late lunch and afternoon relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Habituation experience.
After an early breakfast, you will go for a walk through the Mahura Forest and onto a chimp habituation walk where you will encounter the chimpanzees in the forest searching for food in their natural environment. You will return leisurely to the lodge. Later in the afternoon, you will explore Rumangabo headquarters where you will visit the widow’s workshop, enjoy bird watching. In the evening, you will relax on campo fire as you recap the stories of the last days. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: 2nd Gorilla tracking in Virunga National park.
After an early breakfast, you will head back to Bukima where you will go for the second gorilla tracking, this time tracking a different gorilla family. After an hour with the gorillas, you will transfer back to the lodge for late lunch. In the afternoon, you may visit Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage where you will learn more about the dangers with the gorillas. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 5: Nyiragongo Hiking.
After breakfast, you will set off to Kibati Ranger Post, which is the starting point for the Nyiragongo volcano hike. You will receive briefing from this point; hire the porters in case you need to before setting off for the hike. The hike takes 6 hours depending on the strength and speed of the hikers. You will arrive at the top early in the evening, where you will have overnight at the Top shelters as you enjoy the views of the active lava lake.
Day 6: Descent the Volcano and transfer to Kigali.
At 6:30am, you will start descending back to Kibatsi, which will take four hours utmost. On arrival at Kibatsi, you will meet the driver and drive back to Goma and cross over to Rwanda via Grande Barriere border. You will proceed to Kigali reaching in the evening and transfer to the airport to check in for your departure flight if on schedule.
